One Direction singer Louis Tomlinson is set to make his debut for Doncaster Rovers' reserve side on Wednesday.

Doncaster-born Tomlinson joined Rovers on a non-contract basis last summer.

The 22-year-old had to pull out of a planned appearance against Scunthorpe reserves last September through injury.

"When his schedule allows he comes to watch us because he supports the team, and he's been here a few times for training sessions ahead of the game," Rovers spokesman Shaun Lockwood said.

"He's met all the players, but I should probably say they've met him because there are certainly a few wives, girlfriends and daughters glad that he's been around."

Tomlinson, who has never previously played at a higher level than Sunday league football, will make his bow for his hometown side against Yorkshire rivals Rotherham in their last Final Third Development League game of the season.

He was unable to play in the match against Scunthorpe five months ago after suffering a leg injury when tackled by Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor in a charity match in Glasgow.
