Reading have decided to appeal against the red card shown to defender Alex Pearce during Saturday's 2-0 defeat by Sheffield Wednesday.
The 25-year-old was sent off in the ninth minute as the Owls were awarded a penalty, scored by Chris Maguire.
After the match, Royals manager Nigel Adkins said: "The referee, wrongly in my opinion, sent off our centre-half.
"Having looked at the video, I'm not sure it's even a penalty. There's no way it should have been a red card."
If the ban is upheld by the FA, Pearce faces a one-match ban which would see him miss Sunday's trip to QPR.
The centre-back has made 31 appearances this season, picking up six yellow cards in addition to Saturday's dismissal.
