Dundee United intend to transform their Gussie Park training area into a covered multi-sports facility, for use by the community and the club.

In partnership with the charity United For All, they plan to lay a new full size 3G surface and will seek funding to install a roof.

"These plans are very much about United being truly a part of the community," said chairman Stephen Thompson.

"We want to embrace the whole community and include other sports."

The facility, directly opposite Tannadice Stadium, will be available to rugby and hockey clubs as well as a variety of other sports, as United look to form links with sports clubs in the city.

United also plan to develop current outbuildings for the provision of sports science, physiotherapy and meeting rooms.

"We want to embrace the whole community," added Thompson. "Football clubs have sometimes focused too narrowly. We want to include everyone in our plans."
