Sheffield United 3-0 Bristol City

Sheffield United eased their League One relegation fears with a big win over fellow strugglers Bristol City.

The Blades jumped above their opponents in the table with victory, and it was John Brayford who got them started when he converted Harry Maguire's flick-on.

Jamie Murphy found Ryan Flynn on the edge of the area, and he duly doubled the advantage with a low strike.

Jose Baxter wrapped it up from the penalty spot after Flynn was brought down by Karleigh Osborne.

The defeat leaves Bristol City in the relegation zone, two points from safety, while Sheffield United climbed to 17th.

Sheffield United coach Chris Morgan told BBC Radio Sheffield:

Post-match: Blades coach Morgan

"The result was exactly what we wanted following on from Gillingham in the week. It's two big results for us.

"The two results this week have come through hard work and playing some good stuff, particularly today.

"The manager was conscious that the lads have been going at it really hard. We knew we had to change it up.

"To be fair to the gaffer since he's come in, whatever formation we've played - whichever players we've used - he's hammered across to them what he wants.

"The players have took that on and been excellent, so the ones that come in know exactly what's wanted."

Bristol City manager Steve Cotterill told BBC Radio Bristol:

"Unfortunately, we were poor today. I don't know why that happened. We trained well this week but we didn't put anything into practice.

"Consequently, just before half-time we have given away a soft throw-in, given away a corner from it, not defended the corner and gone in 1-0 down at half-time.

"I don't like defeat at the best of times. Getting beaten 3-0, that reflected our performance today, unfortunately."
