Dan Holman gave Braintree the lead, firing home after Alan Massey's shot had been blocked.
The advantage lasted just two minutes as Dan Walker pulled the Bulls level with a well-taken right-footed finish.
Holman spurned an opening from 12 yards before Sean Marks lobbed over, while Bernard Mensah forced a parried save from Hereford's Daniel Lloyd-Weston.
