Darren Carter extended Northampton Town's unbeaten run with a second-half equaliser against Mansfield Town.
The visitors went ahead when Oliver Palmer beat the advancing Matt Duke.
Chris Wilder's men drew level from the penalty spot after Chris Hackett's cross was handled by Darryl Westlake, who was sent off, and Carter beat Alan Marriott from the spot.
Hackett missed a great chance in the closing stages when he volleyed Alan Connell's cross over the bar.
But a sixth league game without defeat leaves Northampton within two points of safety.
Northampton Town manager Chris Wilder told BBC Radio Northampton:
"From my point of view we've got to keep calm and get that calmness into the players.
"We need to make sure things externally don't run away from us because we're in a relegation scrap.
"I know people will have thought this was a big opportunity missed, but it's another point to the total on a day where a lot of sides around us have lost."
