Match ends, Oldham Athletic 1, Crawley Town 0.
Oldham took three crucial points in their fight against relegation as Danny Philliskirk's goal handed them a vital win against Crawley.
The hosts went ahead when Korey Smith found Philliskirk, who turned before drilling home from close range.
Billy Clarke got Crawley back into the game when he forced a good save from Oldham goalkeeper Paul Rachubka.
Jamie Proctor almost levelled for the visitors late on but his headed effort went straight to Rachubka.
The result meant Crawley slipped to only their second defeat in 11 games.
Oldham manager Lee Johnson told BBC Radio Manchester:
"I thought a lot of the lads were gritty today. We had the three in midfield that just kept running about and putting them under pressure.
"We earned, probably with that grit, more opportunities than we took and that's what's frustrating.
"I don't think my heart strings can handle any more 1-0 wins or any more late goals against us."
Crawley Town boss John Gregory told BBC Surrey:
"Oldham went about their job very well and we came here with confidence, but for some reason we didn't start very well.
"We never really started for 45 minutes and we were fortunate to go in 1-0 down.
"They were quite happy just to get everyone back behind the ball and that's what you expect, when they're fighting for their lives and it's up to us to try and turn it around.
"It now makes games more difficult and I've never been in a situation in the last few weeks where I can rest four or five players.
"I still want to aim as high as we possibly can in the league and it's my duty to get the best out of the players every single week.
"I don't think I have felt this low since I've been at the club."
