Match ends, MK Dons 0, Gillingham 1.
Craig Fagan scored the only goal as Gillingham snatched victory at MK Dons to dent the home side's League One play-off hopes.
After a poor first period, the Gills began the second half brightly.
Myles Weston's shot was pushed out by David Martin and from the rebound Cody McDonald found Fagan, who swept the ball into the far corner.
The closest the Dons came to an equaliser was when Dean Bowditch's shot was headed away by Leon Legge.
MK Dons have not scored in four home games and are three points behind sixth-place Peterborough, who lost 3-1 against Preston on Tuesday.
MK Dons manager Karl Robinson told BBC Three Counties Radio:
"I thought our build-up play and style was excellent.
"They've had one shot on target and beat us 1-0.
"It's not good enough in the final third of the pitch. We just didn't take full advantage of the positions we got ourselves into, it's as basic as that.
"MK Dons were by far the better team, we played relatively well, we dominated in all areas."
Gillingham manager Peter Taylor told BBC Radio Kent:
"MK Dons are a very good team but I couldn't ask any more from the players in the way they worked.
"We defended as a team and I'm not convinced there was a real clear-cut chance for MK Dons. They fought magnificently as a group.
"It was like a defending session that we do on a Thursday and you overload the team - that's what MK Dons were doing. It was like they had more players than us.
"It's a brilliant night for us. The players have a couple of days off and they deserve it."
