Nathan Austin hit the winner on the stroke of half-time to maintain East Fife's League One survival hopes.
Forfar went in front after 32 minutes when Martyn Fotheringham's cross was nodded home by Chris Duggan.
But the lead was short-lived as Liam Buchanan lashed in from close range.
And the visitors were ahead after Kevin Smith's delivery was stroked in by Austin for his third goal of the term. Buchanan later hit the crossbar as the Fifers made it back-to-back wins.
