Leaders Atletico Madrid remain on course for the La Liga title as Raul Garcia's 14th-minute header gave them victory over Villarreal.

The midfielder connected with Koke's corner to lift Atletico to 79 points with six games remaining.

Champions Barcelona beat Real Betis 3-1 to remain a point behind while Real Madrid have 76 points following their 4-0 win at Real Sociedad.

Atletico, coached by Diego Simeone, last won La Liga in 1996.

They host Barcelona in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final on Wednesday, having drawn the first leg 1-1.

The sides also meet at the Nou Camp on the final day of the season.

Diego Costa missed Saturday's win at Vicente Calderon with a hamstring problem, while playmaker Arda Turan has a groin injury.

Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois said: "From here on out we are going to suffer in each game because we are at the end of the season, but we have to keep going."
