Knowing they needed a win and slip-ups from teams above them the hosts started strongly and Callum Gittings fired just wide inside the first 30 seconds.
Jack Byrne saw his 20-yard effort brilliantly saved by visiting keeper Dale Eve in the second half.
Andy Brown came close to a winner for Nuneaton but fired over when well placed.
