Rangers 2-1 Ayr United

Bilel Mohsni's double helped Rangers beat Ayr United and maintained the Scottish League One champions' unbeaten record in the division.

The defender headed home from Fraser Aird's corner to give the hosts the lead after the interval.

Alan Forrest poked the ball past Cammy Bell to level matters midway through the second half.

However, Mohsni was to have the last word with a rebound strike following Nicky Clark's saved header.

Defeat dents Ayr's promotion hopes but they stay just inside the play-off zone, a point clear of Stenhousemuir with two rounds of fixtures remaining.

The Honest Men travelled to Ibrox having not scored against Ally McCoist's side so far this season and Michael Moffat set about trying to change that statistic early on.

His driving run through the middle opened up the home defence and strike partner Craig Malcolm took over only to squirm a low shot just wide.

Jon Daly was also off target at the other end after latching on to Aird's clever back-heel.

Mohsni and Ayr boss Mark Roberts became involved in a touchline spat at a throw-in as half-time neared, referee Iain Brines stepping in to calm the flaring tempers.

The breakthrough came when Aird's delivery was powerfully nodded past David Hutton by the towering Mohsni.

Rangers were keen on a quick second and Hutton saved at the feet of Ian Black.

And the goalkeeper's bravery was rewarded when Ayr equalised, though the hosts will be disappointed at how they conceded.

A short pass back to defence by Arnold Peralta was pounced upon by Scott McLaughlin, who rolled in Forrest to score.

Peralta was promptly replaced by Clark and the forward had a role in the winning goal.

His head met Nicky Law's cross to draw a save from Hutton but Mohsni was on hand to convert the loose ball.

And Rangers now need either a win or two draws from their final two games to reach the 100 points mark.
