Terry Butcher's future as manager of Hibernian is expected to be clarified within the next 48 hours.

Butcher met the club's chief executive Leeann Dempster and club chairman Rod Petrie on Monday to discuss his plans for the forthcoming season.

Dempster and Petrie will now hold discussions with other members of the Easter Road board before deciding on whether to keep Butcher in place.

The former England captain joined Hibs from Inverness last November.

He replaced Pat Fenlon as manager, with he and his assistant Maurice Malpas signing contracts to take them to the summer of 2016.

However, they were unable to prevent the Leith side sliding down into the relegation zone and the team was relegated to the Scottish Championship following a play-off defeat by Hamilton Accies on 25 May.

Dempster has only recently joined the club after moving from Scottish Premiership side Motherwell.

On Saturday about 1,500 Hibs fans demonstrated at Easter Road in an attempt to oust chairman Rod Petrie.
