Former West Ham United defender Julian Dicks has been appointed manager of the West Ham Ladies team.

Dicks, 45, made 326 appearances for the Hammers in two spells between 1988 and 1999, scoring 65 goals.

Bristol-born Dicks has previously managed Eastern Counties League side Wivenhoe Town and Grays Athletic when they were in the Conference Premier.

"Looking forward to my new challenge in football and can't wait to get started," Dicks wrote on Twitter.

West Ham Ladies play in the FA Women's Premier League South and finished 10th out of 11 sides last season under previous manager Mark Saunderson.

During his career Dicks also played for Liverpool, Birmingham City and Canvey Island.
