Kidderminster Harriers 2-2 Chester

By Ged ScottBBC Sport at Aggborough

Steve Burr's Chester came from two goals down to snatch a point against his old club Kidderminster Harriers at rain-sodden Aggborough.

Harriers, down to 10 men for most of the second half after Chey Dunkley's red card, were two up in nine minutes.

Callum Gittings stabbed home from close range, before Dunkley headed in after City goalkeeper Freddy Hall had flapped at a corner.

But Craig Hobson and Wayne Riley both struck in the final 10 minutes.

All change at Kidderminster
Steve Burr was sacked by Harriers in early January - just three days after his team had drawn against Peterborough United in the third round of the FA Cup. He was replaced by Andy Thorn, who was sacked two months later, before being replaced by Burr's former Harriers number two Gary Whild.

Hobson bundled home Danny Taylor's far-post cross, before sub Riley reacted sharpest after left-back Gareth Roberts had hit the bar.

Despite totally dominating the second period, Chester in the end were left rueing Chris Iwelumo's early second-half penalty miss.

City were awarded a 48th-minute spot-kick when Hobson's goal-bound shot was kept out by the outstretched hand of centre-half Dunkley, who was red-carded.

But veteran striker Iwelumo, who had already blazed over from just six yards before the break, fluffed his penalty, hitting it too softly low to keeper Danny Lewis's right.

Kidderminster Harriers boss Gary Whild told BBC Hereford & Worcester:

"It's two points thrown away so I'm disappointed. We should have been more clinical.

"Maybe scoring two goals so early some of our lads thought it was going to be an easy afternoon.

"I'm not querying the handball but I thought it was a poor decision to send off Chey Dunkley. Being down to 10 men then makes it difficult for us and you get tired bodies and tired minds."

Chester manager Steve Burr told BBC Radio Merseyside:

"We can't go giving teams two-goal starts like that. We have to stop conceding bad goals. But take out those two goals and I thought we did ok. We passed it around the way I want us too.

"With the extra man, we should have won, so I'm half pleased.

"And the support we had was terrific again. You can see by the reaction of the fans when we scored what it means to them."
