Gateshead hit back from conceding an early goal to move into the play-off places and leave Telford still winless.
Sean Clancy had given United a dream start when he followed up to score after Adam Bartlett saved his penalty.
Gateshead equalised as Steve Akrigg deflected Alex Rodman's cross into his own net and went ahead when Phil Turnbull headed in from a tight angle.
Rodman crossed for Danny Wright and Lewis Guy to wrap up the points, before Telford's Sean Cooke was sent off.
