Match ends, Scunthorpe United 2, Coventry City 1.
Scunthorpe United earned only their second win of the season after Coventry City were forced to play for almost 70 minutes with 10 men.
Frank Nouble burst into the box and past some poor defending by the Iron to fire the visitors ahead.
Coventry captain Reda Johnson was then sent off following an altercation with Scunthorpe striker Lyle Taylor.
Paddy Madden levelled before the break and Hakeeb Adelukan tested keeper Ryan Allsop before Taylor nodded the winner.
On top of the Sky Blues' seven-game unbeaten run coming to an end, Johnson's 24th-minute red card earned the City centre-half an automatic three-match suspension.
Scunthorpe manager Russ Wilcox told BBC Radio Humberside:
"It's been a difficult weekend but the lads showed tonight that they are fully committed to this football club, fully committed to myself and my staff as well.
"We did so well as a team. I must say, first and foremost, for me Coventry are an outstanding team, and 11 v 11 might be a different story.
"But we won the game. That was the bottom line. It was getting three points on the board and it's three home wins on the spin."
Coventry manager Steven Pressley told BBC Coventry & Warwickshire:
"Reda Johnson did what I don't expect my captain to do and I've told him that. He's a leader. He's responsible and those type of things can't happen. There appeared to be an exchange of words, but you can't put your head towards an opponent. We know that.
"It was a game changer. After hearing lots of noises from their camp, we had weathered the storm and were very much in control. And I really could not asked any more from the players."
"Reda made a mistake and he's got to learn from it. He's cost us here. It's not just missing him for an hour, it's also the fact that we will now miss him for three matches. But he's been exceptional since he's been here. He's such a big player for us and will continue to be."
