Match ends, Alfreton Town 3, AFC Telford United 2.
Alfreton survived a second-half Telford fightback to record back-to-back wins for the first time since mid-March.
The home side took the lead through Andi Thanoj's deflected strike, but the scores were soon level when Tony Gray got on the end of a long ball upfield.
Alfreton went back ahead as Tom Shaw's volley found the net and Joe Ironside finished well after a strong run just before half-time for a 3-1 lead.
Neill Byrne's header cut the gap but Telford's late onslaught came up short.
The Bucks, promoted back to English non-league football's top flight in April, remain bottom of the Conference, with just three points from their first 10 games.
Midfielder David Mellor, 21, made his debut for Alfreton after joining on a month's loan from League One side Oldham.
Alfreton Town manager Nicky Law:
"David will give us extra cover as he can also play left-back and he came in and slotted in well on the left, giving us better balance. He showed us the quality he has.
"We have done well but we are not out of the woods yet. We were never as bad as the results and position suggested. We are not the best in the division, but we are certainly not the worst.
"In the first half we were worthy of our lead, we played really well. In the second half, they changed it slightly and went more direct. They are a big side and caused a few problems.
"We also probably caused ourselves a few problems with a couple of errors but we hung on in the end. It is another good win and great return from the last three games. But we need to push it on now."
Telford United manager Liam Watson told BBC Shropshire:
"The second goal was the turning point. We had just equalised and all Wes Baynes had to do was put his foot through it.
"But it looked like he would be on the receiving end of a tackle, he pulled out, they got a cross in and scored.
"As long as fans see a shift and a spirited performance they can accept defeats.
"What they can't have is people jumping out of tackles."
