Chris Hargreaves' Torquay have made a superb start in the Conference

Torquay United captain Luke Young secured all three points with a fantastic free-kick in the dying moments of their clash with Woking.

Young unleashed an unstoppable low effort from 35 yards out to secure the Gulls' fifth successive win.

Woking, who had won five in a row, had the better of the first half with Scott Rendell nearly opening the scoring.

But Torquay dominated the second period with Jordan Chappell and Ryan Bowman going close before Young's winner.

Torquay, who were relegated from the Football League last season, have won five consecutive games for the first time since January 2012, when they went on to make the League Two play-offs.

The Gulls have not conceded a goal in 466 minutes of football.

Woking manager Garry Hill told BBC Surrey:

"We haven't sat back but it was certainly a first half where we dominated long periods and didn't get our just rewards.

"We've got punished and that happens sometimes, but we came here tonight and we've had a tremendous go.

"We've gone 10 games and it's our first defeat. That record was going to come to an end but I didn't think it would come to an end the way it did."
