The hosts took the lead after just five minutes when Harry Beautyman struck a powerful shot from outside the box.
Gateshead started the second half well and levelled when Carl Finnigan headed home JJ O'Donnell's delivery.
Phil Turnbull then fired over the bar late on for the visitors, but neither side could find a winner.
