Juventus striker Carlos Tevez scored the winner against AC Milan to ensure manager Massimiliano Allegri's San Siro return was a happy one.

Argentina international Tevez's goal settled a tight contest and sent Juventus three points clear at the top of Serie A.

Tevez exchanged passes with Paul Pogba before keeping his composure to score.

Striker Fernando Torres, on a two-year loan from Chelsea, made his AC Milan debut as a second-half substitute.

But while the Spaniard endured an unhappy start to his Serie A career, Allegri savoured a highly satisfying result.

The 47-year-old was sacked by Milan in January but succeeded Antonio Conte as boss of the Italian champions in July.

Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio was denied by a post before Tevez scored his fourth goal in three games.

The former Manchester City player played an exquisite one-two with Pogba before flicking the ball past Christian Abbiati in the 71st minute.

Tevez celebrated by pulling a baby's dummy from his shorts and putting it in his mouth.

Milan, who had won their first two games under new coach Filippo Inzaghi, rarely threatened Gianluigi Buffon in the Juventus goal.

The 36-year-old stopper did make one smart save to deny Keisuke Honda when the game was goalless.

Although Torres came on for his Milan debut in the 76th minute, his only contributions were a yellow card for a foul on Giorgio Chiellini and a half-hearted penalty appeal when he went down in the area.

Milan, who are away to struggling Empoli on Tuesday, slip to third in the table.
