Match ends, Charlton Athletic 0, Middlesbrough 0.
Ten-man Middlesbrough weathered late pressure to earn a point against draw specialists Charlton at The Valley.
George Friend spurned the best chance of the first period when he headed a corner into the side netting.
The closest either side came was when Frederic Bulot smashed the inside of a post from Rhoys Wiggins cross.
Albert Adomah was shown a second yellow card - and a red - for a high foot late on but Middlesbrough held on to record their first draw of the term.
In a tight first-half, the first chance went to the away side when Adomah dragged a shot wide from the right side of the penalty area.
Friend then out-jumped Tal Ben Haim at the back post from Adam Clayton's corner but his header hit the side netting.
The lively Patrick Bamford saw a dipping long-range effort deflected narrowly over the bar before half-time.
The game finally came to the boil in the final 15 minutes when the home side began to assert continued pressure on Middlesbrough.
After Adomah picked up a second yellow card for a dangerous challenge on Wiggins, the home side pushed for a winner.
Wiggins' delivery from the left was met by Bulot, but he saw his effort rebound off the inside of a post and away to safety.
Substitute Lawrie Wilson's effort was saved by Dimitrios Konstantopoulos and, from the resulting corner, George Tucedean's header was cleared off the line to secure Middlesbrough a share of the points.
The result is Charlton's sixth draw of the season and sees Boro drop out of the play-offs into seventh.
Charlton manager Bob Peeters: "We did everything to win but the only thing we lacked was a goal.
"For me, if it was a sending off, that is the referee's decision. I was not shouting for a card or whatever, I was just shouting for a foul in our favour."
Middlesbrough manager Aitor Karanka: "It was difficult for us because we played 120 minutes on Tuesday.
"Everybody was very excited after our game at Anfield, and when you are excited then you can lose your concentration and we were brilliant again.
"I told my players after Tuesday that I was very proud of the players and I am again today."
