Stevenage 3-0 Mansfield Town

Chris Whelpdale scored twice against Mansfield as Stevenage earned a second consecutive home win.

He scored his first after just three minutes, converting when one-on-one after a pinpoint pass from Tom Pett.

Charlie Lee slotted in a Chris Beardsley cross from inside the area to double the lead two minutes later.

Reggie Lambe and Matt Rhead went close for Mansfield before Whelpdale tapped in Roarie Deacon's cross to seal a comfortable victory late on.

Stevenage move up to 13th place in League Two, while Mansfield drop to 11th.

Mansfield Town manager Paul Cox told BBC Radio Nottingham:

"We have just had a good chat with the players. We know now where we need to improve and where things went wrong.

"We have had a positive discussion and been analytical on where things went wrong.

"We gave ourselves a hill to climb conceding two goals early on and you can't do that in this league. I think that's about our worst performance this season. It's a bad performance and a bad result."

Stevenage manager Graham Westley told BBC Three Counties Radio:

"It was a strong display, it was an organised display. I thought in the second half we were much better. It could have easily ran out a bigger scoreline with the chances we had. It's good to get the third and just seal the deal on it.

"They're quite straightforward to play against in many regards, as you know what they're going to do.

"The boys who came on made the difference they were expected to, but in fairness the stars of the show were the boys that started, particularly Dean Wells."
