Dover ended a run of four straight defeats and leapfrogged in-form Alfreton in the Conference table thanks to Ricky Miller's first-half strike.
On-loan Joe Ironside was off target from long range for the visitors early on, while Dover's Connor Essam headed Christian Nanetti's free-kick wide.
Miller's decisive breakthrough came in the 36th minute when he beat two Alfreton defenders before curling home.
Anthony Howell could have levelled for the Reds but fired wide from 20 yards.
