Sheffield Wednesday 1-1 Ipswich Town

Ipswich extended their unbeaten run to six matches in the Championship in a 1-1 draw at Sheffield Wednesday.

Returning loanee Jonny Williams equalised in the second half with a low shot off the post to cancel out Atdhe Nuhiu's early header.

Williams, who rejoined Ipswich on a 93-day loan from Crystal Palace on Monday, scored within seven minutes of coming off the bench.

But, the midfielder was forced off with an injury before the final whistle.

Wednesday's winless run against Ipswich at Hillsborough now extends to six games.

The Owls started the brighter despite coming in to the game off back-to-back defeats.

Dean Gerken did well to push Chris Maguire's low shot behind but was powerless to keep out Nuhiu's near-post header from the following corner from Jacques Maghoma on five minutes.

Maguire dragged a 25-yard strike wide and David McGoldrick scuffed an effort straight at Keiren Westwood as Ipswich strived to get back into the game.

Wednesday had goals disallowed for infringements either side of half time.

Kamil Zayatte nodded home after a brilliant reflex save by Gerken, only for referee Darren Bond to blow for a foul.

After the break Nuhiu saw his finish ruled out for offside, before Williams made it all square in the 62nd minute.

He took the ball down on his chest at the edge of the box before hitting a low shot beyond Westwood and in off the far post.

Maguire almost put Wednesday back in front within minutes, his deflected shot fizzing narrowly wide of the post.

Stevie May then headed a Maghoma cross wide and Christophe Berra sent one just over at the other end as both sides pushed for a winner.

Ipswich remain fifth, but are now only two points behind leaders Norwich, while The Owls are ninth, two points off the play-offs.

Sheffield Wednesday manager Stuart Gray:

"We got our noses in front with a good goal from Atdhe. I haven't seen the second and third ones again, but I felt Atdhe's second goal looked onside.

"There's different types of games in all the leagues and I would imagine my back four have had to head the ball and clear their lines more tonight.

"One tired clearance just dropped to the boy Williams and he's ended up getting a shot on goal which drops into the bottom corner."

Ipswich manager Mick McCarthy:

"It was hard-fought, hard-earned, a deserved point and I'm pleased with it.

"I thought we played some nice football in the first half and kept it, but they were letting us do it and we didn't really hurt them.

"We had a nice spell just before half-time with a couple of good chances. I think on reflection it was probably even on chances."
