Burton Albion 1-3 Cambridge United

Tom Elliott
Tom Elliott scored a goal in each half to lift Cambridge up to 13th in League Two

Cambridge United ended the 100% home record of League Two leaders Burton Albion, who failed to extend their one-point lead at the top.

Tom Elliott headed the visitors in front from Harrison Dunk's cross.

Another Dunk centre provided the second for Ryan Donaldson midway through the second half, before Elliott met Kwesi Appiah's pass to make the game safe.

Lucas Akins steered in a shot from 15 yards but it was no more than a consolation for the hosts.

And they will lose top spot in the table if either Wycombe, Bury or Southend win their respective games on Saturday.

Burton manager Gary Rowett told BBC Radio Derby:

Rowett on Burton v Cambridge

"I felt we started OK. There wasn't an awful lot in the game, you could see that they'd changed their formation and played with one in front of the back four, which obviously makes it a little bit difficult to find space.

"I have to say the first goal was a really poor one to concede. When you do that, you give the opposition a really good opportunity to just sit in and make it hard as they can just keep trying to pick counter attacks.

"We had nearly all of the ball after that. We put lots of ball into their box, but our full-backs and our wide players didn't show enough desire to get on the end of things, so it was disappointing all over."

Cambridge United boss Richard Money told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire:

"I think it shows what every league is about - there's very little difference between top and wherever else you are in the league.

"I have to give the players an incredible amount of credit really. One or two aren't 100% fit but put their hands up to play.

"I thought we looked a real threat tonight and defended pretty solidly for most of the game."
