  • Milanic still looking for first victory as Leeds boss

A neat finish from Giuseppe Bellusci rescued a point for Leeds United in their derby with Sheffield Wednesday, but new boss Darko Milanic is still searching for his first win.

Chris Maguire gave the visitors the lead when he thrashed Jacques Maghoma's cross into Marco Silvestri's bottom corner shortly after half-time.

But Bellusci calmly side-footed home to grab a deserved equaliser.

Milanic has now lost one and drawn two matches since taking over in September.

Leeds registered only one shot on target in Wednesday night's goalless draw with Reading and were going up against the league's stiffest defence.

In a tight first half, Alex Mowatt was denied by Owls keeper Keiren Westwood before Souleymane Doukara clipped a low effort wide.

Rodolph Austin's ferocious dipping drive from 35 yards had Westwood at full stretch but there was little else of real note until, with half-time looming, an unchallenged Stevie May headed wide from six yards out.

Maguire broke the deadlock on 52 minutes when he struck from outside the box before celebrating enthusiastically in front of the home support.

The goal stirred Leeds into life and moments later the luckless Antenucci was thwarted by another fine save from man-of-the-match Westwood.

Referee James Adcock handed out five yellow cards in six minutes as the home side searched for an equaliser.

It came with 10 minutes to play when Bellusci calmly steered a half-volley into Westwood's bottom corner after Wednesday failed to clear a free-kick.

In a tense finish, Gary Madine came closest to winning it for the visitors only for Silvestri to gather his low effort.

The point temporarily lifts Leeds to 11th in the Championship, while Wednesday remain ninth ahead of a two-week break.

Leeds head coach Darko Milanic: "We had a good game with a lot of energy with a lot of good play in the last third, which is what we missed in the last game.

"After we made it 1-1 I believed that we could win the game.

"There's enough quality. But my job is to improve them. We're working very hard to make a good team."

Gray on Leeds v Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday head coach Stuart Gray: "That wasn't us. We didn't pass it as well as we have passed it and our ball retention wasn't good.

"At the end of the day you're not always going to get it your own way. You need to dig in and we had Kieren Westwood pulling off some fantastic saves.

"But then I thought after we got in front we would go on and win the game."
