Norwich, Rotherham and four-goal hauls |
---|
Norwich had scored four goals in their last two matches with Rotherham, beating them 4-2 in a Carling Cup tie in September 2006 and drawing 4-4 at Millmoor in League One in January 2004 |
Rotherham scored four goals the last time they beat Norwich - a 4-1 win over the Canaries in the old Second Division in August 1981. |
Derbyshire had a chance early on for the visitors but could not find a way past Ruddy.
From then on it was all Norwich, with former Stoke City striker Jerome missing the target three times - shooting wide from the edge of the box before heading balls from Martin Olsson and Nathan Redmond the wrong side of the post.
Rotherham then survived a goalmouth scramble as Lewis Grabban and Jerome brought excellent saves from Adam Collin before forcing the penalty seconds later.
The Millers thumped the ball clear and Derbyshire found himself through on goal, forcing Ruddy into committing the foul inside the area.
Green sent the England international the wrong way to put the Millers a goal ahead at the break.
Norwich continued their onslaught on the Millers' goal as Jonny Howson put the ball over from close range, while Lafferty's shot from distance deflected off Grabban and hit the post, only for Collin to save Bradley Johnson's follow-up.
Howson cleared Craig Morgan's header off the line as Rotherham forced their only real chance of the second half before the home side secured a point.
Kari Arnason was penalised for handball on the edge of the area and Lafferty's resulting free-kick hit the post, with Jerome reacting quickest to turn it into the net.
Norwich manager Neil Adams: "We have let five points slip through our fingers in the past two games, however, if we had been very poor, I would have been worried, but at the moment, there is very little wrong with our performances.
"We have had two freak games, you normally get one a season, we have just had two of them back-to-back, but the main concern would be if we are not causing teams problems, which is not the case."
Rotherham manager Steve Evans: "Norwich had a lot of the ball, but we had four or five good opportunities to get 2-0 in front. We are disappointed with that, but it was a hard-earned point,
"It is a shame the referee does not get the decision right with the handball for the free-kick which lead to the goal, but to be fair to him, it was given by the assistant and how he can see it is X-ray vision stuff, but the crowd shout and the official delivered."
