Match ends, Brentford 3, Reading 1.
Goals from Jota, Alex Pritchard and Jonathan Douglas helped Brentford move up to 10th in the Championship with an impressive victory over Reading.
Jota put the hosts ahead as he latched onto Alan McCormack's cross to fire home his second of the season.
Brentford managed to double their lead when Andre Gray slipped and the ball fell to Pritchard who tapped home.
Simon Cox pulled one back from close range after the break before Douglas nodded a third from Pritchard's corner.
The Bees were almost ahead after just 90 seconds when Alan Judge hit the post following a creative run into the penalty area.
Nick Blackman had the chance to put Reading in front just moments later but saw his shot blocked by goalkeeper David Button.
Spaniard Jota, who was signed from Celta Vigo in the summer, ensured that the hosts' early pressure was rewarded.
McCormack's cross got the better of Royals defender Michael Hector and the ball dropped kindly for Jota, who tapped home from close range.
Blackman twice came close to equalising, heading Jordan Obita's cross over the crossbar before curling another effort narrowly wide.
The home side looked comfortable in the second half as they dealt with some late pressure from the visitors.
Glenn Murray headed over before Button parried away Jamie Mackie's effort but Brentford wrapped up three points and moved above Reading in the table thanks to Douglas's late header.
Brentford manager Mark Warburton: "Reading are a very good team with a lot of quality. To a man defensively, we were immense. It's a very pleasing result.
"We could have taken better care of the ball - but if we're looking for criticism after beating Reading 3-1 then we're very happy."
Reading manager Nigel Adkins: "We had the momentum with us but unfortunately the third goal gave Brentford the winning edge.
"Was it a foul? The ref hasn't given it but nine-and-three-quarter times out of 10 the ref would have given it.
"But every game you can question something, but we have to think about our own performance. The two goals we conceded in the first half were of our own doing."
