Grimsby's winless run stretched to three games as Altrincham goalkeeper Stuart Coburn kept them at bay.
Coburn made a good save from Patrick McLaughlin just after the half-hour before he tipped a left-foot shot from Aswad Thomas around the post.
Top scorer Damian Reeves almost won it for the visitors late on but James McKeown kept out his header.
The result leaves the Mariners in 11th place in the table - six points off the play-offs - with Altrincham 18th.
Grimsby manager Paul Hurst told BBC Radio Humberside:
"Obviously the simple thing is we didn't get the ball in the net, but I can't fault the players in terms of the effort to try and win the game.
"We couldn't find the goal which I felt the players deserved and ultimately it's two points dropped at home.
"The only thing I can knock them for is at times we're a little bit static in the box, from the second phase of a cross where it's maybe headed back across the goal, or it's a defender who moves and we react to things rather than gambling on them. "
