Jon Shaw made it six goals in eight games this season as his double saw Gateshead go second in the Conference with victory over Alfreton.
The striker netted the opener after just eight minutes, converting Tom Allan's delivery.
Five minutes later he nodded home from inside the six-yard box to put Gateshead firmly in control.
The visitors might have pulled a goal back when Anthony Howell hit a post, but they rarely threatened after that.
Gateshead's victory was their second in four days and leaves them three points behind leaders Barnet, while Alfreton stay 23rd.
