Coventry City 1-3 Bristol City

Kieran Agard
Kieran Agard scored his sixth goal of the season.

Kieran Agard helped Bristol City stay top of the League One table with victory over Coventry City.

The visitors broke the deadlock when Marlon Pack struck home from distance for his first goal of the season.

Agard coolly doubled their lead on the stroke of half time after being played through on goal by Aaron Wilbraham.

Coventry's Shaun Miller then latched onto James Maddison's ball before Jay Emmanuel-Thomas supplied Scott Wagstaff late on as Bristol City sealed victory.

The result means the Sky Blues slip to 17th and are without a win in seven league matches whilst Bristol City are still unbeaten this season.

Coventry City manager Steven Pressley told BBC Coventry and Warwickshire:

"I think the physical aspects were the difference in the teams today. They possessed greater physicality than us, and the outcome of the game was defined by that.

"There were some positive signs in the second half, but there are too many players who need to step up to the mark.

"What was encouraging for me was that I've been here for 20 months and I want self-policing at this club, and if we're losing games they're pointing fingers at each other, and we got that today. That's what winners do: winners demand more of each other. Winning teams are driven by the players.

"It's difficult times for us just now, I am aware of that. There's frustration and there's a lack of confidence but I'm truly determined to turn that round and I believe I will turn this round. We need to never accept defeat, to show resilience and a strong mentality."

Bristol City manager Steve Cotterill told BBC Radio Bristol:

"It's a fantastic win and I think Coventry are a good team who are down on their luck a little bit at the moment.

"I think Steven Pressley has done a really good job here and I think he will continue to do that for sure.

"We had a 20 minute period in the second half at 2-0 where we stepped off it a little bit. We weren't getting hurt and then all of a sudden we relaxed a little too much.

"They upped their game and scored the goal. All of a sudden that's given us a shake and we needed to get a grip of the game again."
