Town end 10 hours without an away goal |
---|
Shrewsbury Town had not scored on their travels in more than 10 hours of action since Andy Mangan's League Cup second round matchwinner at Leicester on 26 August. |
Collins' sixth strike of the season was Town's first away goal in two months.
York were down to 10 men from the 64th minute after Ryan Jarvis was sent off for a foul on Nat Knight-Percival.
Shrewsbury climb up above Southend into the play-off places, from 8th to 7th, on goal difference.
Town had defender Jack Grimmer making his debut following his arrival on loan from Fulham, which was not announced by the club until an hour before the game.
Shrewsbury manager Micky Mellon told BBC Radio Shropshire:
"It was a really good away performance. We came determined to do what we haven't done enough of, and that's pick up points on the road. And we were in total control of pretty much most, if not all, of the game.
"We controlled the tempo by passing the ball or keeping the ball and by managing it properly.
"A few more goals could have made it a bit more comfortable for us, but I was delighted to see that James Collins goal go in at the end."
