Bury 3-0 Portsmouth

Ryan Lowe
Lowe has scored seven goals this season for Bury

High-flying Bury moved up to second and returned to winning ways with a comfortable victory at home to Portsmouth

The Shakers were ahead early on when Danny Mayor curled home an impressive effort from range in off the bar.

Ryan Lowe doubled the hosts' lead just before half-time when he headed home Nick Adams' volleyed delivery.

Danny Rose sealed all three points for Bury after the break when he slid Lowe's pass past keeper Paul Jones.

Bury manager David Flitcroft told BBC Radio Manchester:

"[The game] had everything that we planned for and prepared for.

"There was a real desire in the play. I'm delighted for the lads because we've worked hard."

Portsmouth manager Andy Awford told BBC Radio Solent:

"Very frustrated. We need to do much better than that, it goes without saying. Fair play to Bury, they've deserved their victory today; 3-0 is about right, there is no pulling any punches with that, the goals were poor and we haven't done enough in the final third.

"We need to score more goals, that's what we have to do. I said to the players before the game 'go and express yourself and play'; to an extent we did that but in the wrong areas of the pitch and we have to get in the final third.

"They owe our supporters a performance. The people who have just travelled, they have spent an awful lot of money coming up today, the supporters, and I feel for them, I really do, but it's my job to lift the players, it's my job to pick the team. There will be changes Tuesday, there is no doubt about it"
