Match ends, Motherwell 1, Dundee 3.
Dundee broke their Premiership losing streak with a convincing win over struggling Motherwell.
Confidence has drained out of Stuart McCall's team and goals from David Clarkson and Gary Harkins had them trailing at half time.
Greg Stewart made it three and, although Henrik Ojamaa got a goal back, it had no impact on the outcome.
Dundee keeper Kyle Letheren was injured in the warm-up and 22-year-old Scott Bain was pressed into service.
That early disruption did not to do Paul Hartley's team any harm, however, and it took them only three minutes to make a breakthrough.
And it was a player familiar with the feeling of finding the net at Fir Park who scored a third goal for his new employers.
Clarkson, seven years a Motherwell player, was allowed the sort of room in the penalty box on which he thrives and he lashed a left foot shot high past Dan Twardzik, greeting the goal with a muted celebration.
Clarkson very nearly created a second for Dundee when he cruised past defender Mark O'Brien and squared the ball across goal where Stewart was just a fraction away from applying the finishing touch.
A disjointed Motherwell carried no great attacking threat. Two efforts from Ojamaa were comfortably saved by Bain.
The Motherwell defence was anything but comfortable and was breached again when Harkins made it 2-0.
The initial threat came from Stewart, Motherwell missed a couple of chances to get the ball clear and Harkins gleefully snapped up the opportunity to slam home.
Dundee should have been further clear by the break but Clarkson missed a free header and Twardzik saved well from Paul McGowan.
Loud booing accompanied the Motherwell players as they trudged down the tunnel at the interval.
Stephen McManus and Jack Leitch were hooked for the second half and replaced by Fraser Kerr and Stuart Carswell.
Inside an hour Dundee were three goals in front. Again Motherwell were fragile in defence and Clarkson set up the impressive Stewart to score from close in.
The lively Ojamaa was the best thing about Motherwell and he prodded the ball in off the underside of the bar to get the home team on the scoresheet.
They threw everything at Dundee for the last half hour but lacked the quality to create solid chances.
'Well have now lost three league games in a row and are second bottom of the table, just three points ahead of Ross County.
