Chester 2-1 Alfreton Town

Bumpers Lane, Chester

Craig Mahon scored an injury-time winner as Chester came from behind to beat struggling Alfreton.

The away side went ahead through Tom Shaw, who received a pass from Joe Ironside to prod the ball past former Alfreton keeper Jon Worsnop.

Tom Davies then headed a great chance over for Alfreton before Chester's Matty Hughes equalised from 10 yards.

Sean McConville shot narrowly wide, but the hosts won it when Mahon diverted Jamie Menagh's cross into the net.

After losing three of their first four home games this season, Chester are now unbeaten in five at Bumpers Lane, in which they have taken 13 points out of a possible 15.

City are now up to 13th, seven points shy of the play-offs, while Alfreton remain second from bottom, now just three points clear of backmarkers Telford.

Chester manager Steve Burr told BBC Radio Merseyside:

"We played them off the park. Alfreton scored off the run of play, but our lads got what they deserved and we could have and should have scored more.

"We carried on where we left off against Aldershot and we're starting to make this a difficult place to come.

"I felt the way we were pressing that we were going to score, but you never want to leave it that late because it would have been a completely different dressing room with two points lost."
