Torquay United 2-3 Grimsby Town

By Brent PilnickBBC Sport at Plainmoor

Grimsby Town took their chances as they narrowly won a thrilling match at Torquay United.

The Gulls missed a lot of early chances before Lennell John-Lewis put the visitors ahead.

Luke Young equalised soon after only for Craig Disley to put Grimsby back in front on the stroke of half-time.

Aaron Downes headed an equaliser for the Gulls on the hour but John-Lewis's header crept over the line for the winner after Scott Neilson's cross.

Grimsby Town manager Paul Hurst told BBC Radio Humberside:

"A great way to answer people and show the people that we are a decent team and that's what I have been saying from the start. There's still a long way to go but great to win hear for a few reasons really.

"One, the fact that we didn't really turn up against them at home for that first half when we lost the game. Secondly, the journey. It's a long way to come and travel back with nothing. That's nice for the fans also who made the long journey and it was great support yet again.

"I think we were the first team to win here. We keep racking these things up away from home and it was another impressive display and I thought we played some good football at times."
