AC Milan had to settle for a point against Fiorentina as they were held to a draw at the San Siro.
The home side could have moved up to third with a win and their prospects looked promising when Nigel de Jong headed them in front.
A corner to the far post was nodded across goal by Cristian Zapata and De Jong was on hand to nod in.
However, Josip Ilicic was allowed too much space in the second half and equalised with a low 20-yard shot.
Meanwhile, Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain scored a hat-trick in a 6-2 win over Verona to help ease the pressure on manager Rafael Benitez.
The Napoli bus had been attacked by their fans after a 2-0 defeat by Young Boys in Bern in the Europa League in midweek.
And, when Benitez's side fell behind after 26 seconds to a Emil Hallfredsson goal, it did not bode well for Napoli.
But Higuain's treble, along with two goals from Marek Hamsik and one from Jose Callejon, gave Napoli a big win.
