Kilmarnock 1-3 Dundee

By John BarnesBBC Scotland
  • Dundee seal third league win in a row
  • Greg Stewart nets a double
  • David Clarkson scores fifth goal in five games

Dundee claimed their third league win in a row as Greg Stewart's double edged out Kilmarnock in a thrilling match.

Stewart put the Dens Park side in front just before half time and David Clarkson notched his fifth goal in five league games early in the second half.

Alexei Eremenko pulled a goal back for Killie who pushed for the equaliser.

But Stewart pounced in the fourth minute of stoppage time to claim his seventh goal of the season and put the game beyond Killie's reach.

The win sends Paul Hartley's side into the top half of the table with 19 points after 12 games, and they are now just a point behind Killie.

The home side, wearing black armbands as a mark of respect for Mrs Margie Moffat, the wife of former Kilmarnock chairman Jim Moffat who passed away last week, had won three of their last four league games going into this one.

Dee had won their last two but neither side had much of a cutting edge early on.

Craig Samson, back in the Killie goal after injury, dealt with a couple of crosses from Gary Harkins but that was the extent of the action in his area during the first half hour.

Dundee keeper Scott Bain had even less to do as Ross Barbour blasted over before Eremenko's chip failed to hit the target.

The visitors had the first real chance when Boyle blasted in a 25-yarder that crashed back off the inside of Samson's left hand post, and he then saw a deflected effort saved by the Killie number one.

Tope Obadeyi's lazy pass midway inside the Dundee half led to the visitors scoring on the counter. Harkins picked it up before passing to Clarkson at the edge of the box, he touched it on to strike partner Stewart who slotted it into the corner of the net off the post.

Six minutes after the interval it was 2-0. Eremenko gave the ball away in the opposition half, Harkins surged forward and played in Clarkson and he drilled home a low left foot shot.

Dundee had chances to increase their lead but Harkins, Boyle and Stewart were unable to find the net.

Eremenko then hauled Killie back into it as he pulled a high ball down with his right foot and turned to finish from close range with his left.

The hosts almost found the equaliser but Mark Connolly's header went straight into the arms of Bain, before Danny Westlake and Robbie Muirhead also went close.

However, four minutes into stoppage time and with keeper Samson up for a Killie corner, the ball broke the way of Dundee. Stewart ran the length of the park before having a shot that Jamie Hamill cleared off the line, but the striker made no mistake with the rebound.
