Brown's current contract is set to expire at the end of the season

Southend United boss Phil Brown has said he is set to sign a deal that will keep him at the League Two side for the "next two or three years".

After a four-game winning run in September, Brown's side are winless in five matches this month.

But the 55-year-old says he has nearly agreed a contract, having been in talks since the summer.

"It's close. We've been working hard behind the scenes to try and get it right," he told BBC Essex.

"Hopefully that will tie my future up for the next two or three years.

"It would be nice to go into the final details of the contract with a win on Saturday. I might get an extra zero on the contract, you never know."

The former Hull City and Preston manager led Southend to the play-offs last season in his first full campaign in charge.
