Florian Thauvin's winning goal means Marseille have gained seven victories in their last eight home Ligue 1 games

Marseille moved four points clear at the top of Ligue 1 as they gained a nervy home victory against Lens.

Defender Nicolas N'Koulou put the hosts ahead with a diving header from Florian Thauvin's corner, before Baptiste Guillaume equalised from 12 yards out.

Thauvin restored Marseille's lead, finishing off a passing move involving Dimitri Payet and Andre-Pierre Gignac.

Home midfielder Alaixys Romao was sent off for two bookable offences late on, but Marseille held on for the win.

Lens nearly snatched an equaliser in the sixth minute of injury time but Marseille goalkeeper Steve Mandanda blocked an effort from substitute Yoann Touzghar.

Marseille, who last won the Ligue 1 title in 2009-10, travel to face defending champions Paris St-Germain in their next league game on 9 November.
