League Two Tranmere put their poor recent form behind them by overcoming Conference club Bristol Rovers in the FA Cup first round.
Max Power put the hosts ahead from the spot after Mike McChrystal was ajudged to have handled in the area.
Tranmere went down to 10 men soon after when George Donnelly was shown a straight red for kicking Tom Parkes.
The visitors applied some late pressure with Ellis Harrison forcing a good save from goalkeeper Owain Fon Williams.
The victory was only the second in 13 matches for Micky Adams' side.
Bristol Rovers manager Darrell Clarke told BBC Radio Bristol:
"I think Tranmere will think they were very fortunate to have got away with the victory. We're very disappointed.
"We chucked everything at them, I thought we were the better team in the first half for 35 minutes of it.
"The only real danger they caused was one of the strikers having a long distance shot.
"Then second half, the penalty, I'll have to see it again, but I know we had two clear ones turned down which is frustrating."
