Netherlands 2-3 Mexico

Netherlands goalkeeper Tim Krul is beaten by Carlos Vela's curling shot
Netherlands have conceded 10 goals in their last five matches

Former Arsenal striker Carlos Vela scored twice in his first international appearance for three years as Mexico stunned Netherlands 3-2 in Amsterdam.

Vela took only eight minutes to open the scoring in the friendly, curling in left-footed from the edge of the box.

The Dutch, who rested Robin van Persie, levelled through Wesley Sneijder's fine long-range strike just after the break.

Vela struck again and Javier Hernandez calmly made it 3-1 before Daley Blind's deflected shot pulled one back.

It was a fourth defeat in their last five matches for Netherlands, who beat Mexico 2-1 in the round of 16 at this year's World Cup en route to finishing third.

Their next game is a Euro 2016 qualifier at home to Latvia on Sunday. They are currently third in qualifying Group A, having lost in the Czech Republic and Iceland,

Real Sociedad's Vela, 25, who made 64 appearances for Arsenal from 2008 to 2012, was suspended by Mexico for six months in 2010 over an alleged party and then chose not to play for the national team.

Manchester United's Hernandez, on a season-long loan at Real Madrid, also got on the scoresheet when he found himself clean through on goal and dribbled past goalkeeper Tim Krul to roll in Mexico's third.
