Oxford United boss Michael Appleton is hopeful of new signings before the loan window shuts on 27 November.

The U's have assessed potential loanees in two behind-closed-doors games for the development squad this week.

"There are a couple of standout players from the two games," Appleton, whose side are currently 19th in League Two, told BBC Radio Oxford.

"We are speaking to their representatives to see if anything can be done."

He continued: "Like anything there are two clubs involved and not just one so we have to be a little bit patient but we are hoping to bring a couple of players in definitely next week.

"Whether that is a loan deal or a permanent we will wait and see but I know the loan window shuts on the 27th so we'll have to wait and see."

He believes new faces will help freshen up his team ahead of the hectic Christmas schedule when his squad will be fully tested.

"We've spoken as a group and feel two or three players would be ideal and would shake up the squad. There are certain areas we need to strengthen."
