Portsmouth midfielder James Dunne has been ruled out for two months after undergoing knee surgery.

The 25-year-old has made 17 appearances for Pompey this season, scoring once, but was injured during the 3-0 victory over Carlisle on 1 November.

Pompey manager Andy Awford confirmed last week that Dunne was to have an exploratory operation after suffering cartilage damage.

He has since told BBC Radio Solent that Dunne will be out for eight weeks.

"He had the surgery on Tuesday, they've had a look around and it's cartilage damage," added Awford.

"It could have been a lot worse, there could have been more damage and it's probably the best we could have hoped for with what we saw of the scans.

"It's still a blow, but at least it's not as bad as it could have been."
