AFC Telford United remain rooted to the bottom of the Conference following a home defeat by Braintree.

Goalkeeper Freddy Hall made three early saves before Charlie Strutton opened the scoring for the Iron from 18 yards.

Strutton doubled the lead with a volley from the edge of the box before Sean Marks' close-range finish made it three before half-time.

Telford briefly threatened a comeback when Tony Gray netted from six yards, but Braintree held on to win.

Improving Telford, who had reached the second round of the FA Cup on Tuesday night, had lost only twice in eight matches in all competitions prior to the Braintree defeat.

AFC Telford United manager Liam Watson told BBC Radio Shropshire:

"No excuses. I have to look at myself after the first-half performance. If I'm honest, the game was gone at half time. We didn't have any energy, desire or commitment to win.

We showed a little bit of character in the second half but the game was gone. We haven't been able to collect the points of late and in this league you need legs.

"It's an excuse to use Tuesday night as the reason for today's performance. Too many players were heard chirping on about the FA Cup before the game, and if you do that you can easily play yourself out of the game."
