@1044 Blackett? 6 appearances for an injury depleted Utd this season, the previously unheard of Blackett was centre stage in the Leceister debacle. You think that catapults him into England's list of CBs? It's true what people say about players getting selected because of their club. Fans even think like that.
RH will be blessed in defence with options come September's qualification games; Shaw, Baines, Gibbs & even Bertrand at LB, Cahill, Blackett, Chambers, Stones, Jagielka, Dier, Jones [please not Smalling on his current form] at CB, Clyne at RB. But with a lack of RB options [Flanagan crock & maybe not up to last season's quality when he returns] a dearth of options with RH shoehorning a CB to RB!
@ 975 & 982 Dougal1.Anti-IRA is not the same as anti-Catholic2. Religious songs (pro or anti) have no place in football. In addition to State and Judiciary, the church should be kept separate from sport.Only 5 countries have won more WC's than England. 1 of those won most recently in 1950. 3 of the other 4 are countries with much larger populations. Wayne'selbow....over to you :-)
The match between Scotland & England naturally attracted support either side of the border. For myself I am happy to cheer for Scotland,Wales, N Ireland in their matches and when they play England ( my birthright) I hope I am civilised enough to enjoy a win, or a loss, as a sporting event , not a political statement

Remarks about cricket (rounders) Gran and other unrelated things it must be closure time.1035 Success is not about winning trophies etc. dear dear really think FIFA should award England squads for the 90 96 and 2002 tournaments for what I have no idea did they have the best bus driver, nicest hair or most non English born players.Wayne's only goal in 3 tournaments should be immortalised.
@1032 - the world doesn't revolve around winning world cups. You can still be good and not win a tournament. England were good in 1990, 1996 and 2002. With a bit more luck they could have won any of those tournaments.England weren't good in 1992, 2000 and 2010. Or - arguably - in 2014.That is what the author is referring to - rehabilitation from a first round WC knock-out.
This article has been running for some days now.I still try to understand the reason behind 'rehabilitation'.England won just one world cup and that you know when it was, Phil.Find another word!
