Torquay United left-back Tom Cruise is to sign a contract with the Conference club until the end of the season.
The 23-year-old signed a short-term deal in August and has been a regular in the Gulls side this season.
"The game at Gateshead on Saturday will be his 20th of the season so he'll earn himself a deal until the end of the season," manager Chris Hargreaves told BBC Sport.
"It was a pre-arranged deal if he showed consistency and some fitness."
Cruise, who is a former England youth international, initially joined the Gulls in 2012 from Arsenal, for whom he made one appearance in the Champions League against Olympiakos in 2009.
"He really has fought. He's done as much as he can to earn himself that deal," Hargreaves added.
"He's a good player, I've just tried to give him that fight in his body to be able to survive in this ruthless game that we're all in.
"If he doesn't like me, but he learns something, then I'm happy, because there's got to be that anger in there because the ramifications of not having that are that you haven't got a job."
