Match ends, Barnsley 1, Scunthorpe United 2.
Scunthorpe earned a valuable away victory as Paddy Madden's brace sealed all three points at Barnsley.
Marcello Trotta's strike gave the Tykes the lead midway through the first half.
But the away side responded quickly, with Irishman Madden equalising within a minute after good work down the right by Gary McSheffrey.
Madden then ran through the Barnsley defence before slotting the ball comfortably past goalkeeper Ross Turnbull to seal victory.
The result lifts Scunthorpe up to 21st place in the table, now only in the relegation zone on goal difference with a game in hand.
Scunthorpe United manager Mark Robins told to BBC Radio Humberside:
"It's a great result for us, because I like Barnsley this season - they've got some good players, recruited really well and are hard to beat at home.
"I think the quick goal after they scored, just set the tone for us, and I think the second goal was good enough to win any game.
"They just managed to get a ball in - that was too easy - the defenders had dropped to the line and it was a great finish from them."
Barnsley manager Danny Wilson told to BBC Radio Sheffield:
"Without being too critical, I don't think we played anything like we can play. I didn't think that we had any intensity at all.
"The decision making, the passing of the ball with any fluency and quickness, wasn't there today.
"We seemed to get into a lot of trouble by passing the ball too slowly or by making slow decisions.
"They started the game better than we did, and I thought when we scored a goal against the run of play it would kick us into gear a bit. But we didn't give ourselves a chance to get a grip on the game as we conceded so quickly after scoring."
