Scunthorpe 1-1 Worcester City

Conference North side Worcester City kept their hopes of reaching the FA Cup third round alive with a deserved draw at League One Scunthorpe United.

Paddy Madden put the Iron ahead with a close range header after City goalkeeper Nathan Vaughan had tipped Miguel Llera's free-kick onto the bar.

But Daniel Nti levelled just after the break as he smashed the ball in.

Worcester deserved to draw - Heeley

Both sides then had chances to win as City's Mike Symons blazed over and Scunthorpe's Billy Kee sliced wide.

The result for Carl Heeley's City was no more than they deserved after they dominated much of the second half in front of more than 2,000 of their own fans who had made the 150-mile trip to Glanford Park.

Worcester City's FA Cup pedigree
The furthest Worcester City have reached in the Cup was in 1959 when they beat Liverpool, then a Division Two side, in round three, before losing at Sheffield United in the fourth round.
Carl Heeley's City, watched by a sell-out 2,200 following at Glanford Park, are now unbeaten in 14 league and cup matches.

Scunthorpe had enjoyed the best of the first 45 minutes, but the game was turned on its head just 43 seconds after the break when the home defence failed to clear a cross and the ball was bundled on to Nti who fired the ball into the roof of the net from just two yards.

City then began to turn the screw with chances for Symons, Tyler Weir and George Williams before the hosts pushed for a winner in a frantic last 10 minutes.

But Worcester held firm to earn a spot in the third round draw which takes place on Monday, 8 December, at 19:00 GMT.

Robins on Scunthorpe v Worcester

Scunthorpe United boss Mark Robins told BBC Radio Humberside:

"We weren't good enough. I thought we were lacklustre and weren't great. We weren't anywhere near as good as we have been.

"Then again, I've got three or four players out and those changes make a difference to us.

"We're still in the hat which is a positive, we've got to go down to Kidderminster to play this game against Worcester and there's a bit more work to do."

Worcester manager Carl Heeley told BBC Final Score:

"All we said was to have no regrets and to do ourselves justice. We thoroughly deserved a second bite of the cherry.

"We have a fighting chance. I am delighted for the boys and the fans - they are a great bunch.

"Obviously you want the biggest tie of the third round - we all want to go to Old Trafford or the Emirates."
